For my Capstone project, I am focusing on my involvement in my 4-H club, an organization that has been a central part of my life since I was seven years old. Over the years, I have dedicated thousands of hours to working with my community, which has shaped my values and influenced my daily actions. One of the most significant aspects of my 4-H club that has impacted my future plans is my exposure to animals. My deep love for animals not only fueled my passion for science and biology but also solidified my decision to major in biology when I begin my undergraduate studies in the coming fall of 2025.
Beyond strengthening my love for the sciences, raising and caring for livestock has provided me with valuable hands-on experiences that translate well into a medical career. On multiple occasions, I have had the opportunity to perform medical procedures on our animals, and although these weren’t extreme surgeries, they were experiences that were both challenging and deeply rewarding. Being able to directly contribute to their care and well-being reinforced my passion for medicine and the idea of making a difference in the lives of others.
Additionally, my extensive community service and volunteer work through 4-H have shaped my perspective on the importance of helping others. Giving back to my community has become a fundamental part of who I am, and I cannot imagine a career that does not involve service and helping others as the core values. My leadership role in 4-H has also allowed me to develop essential life skills, such as communication, mentorship, and teamwork. Guiding younger members and working closely with my peers has made me a more effective teacher and collaborator–skills that will be crucial in my future medical career.
Ultimately, my involvement in 4-H has not only shaped my academic and career aspirations but has also instilled in me a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and personal growth.
